Which is more Difficult Between the Two?
Kashmir Great Lakes Trek and the Tarsar Marsar Lakes Trek are two of the most breathtaking treks in the Kashmir region, each offering stunning alpine landscapes, pristine lakes, and lush meadows.
Great Lakes Trek
Kashmir Great Lakes Trek spans over 8 days, covering approximately 72-75 kilometers. It is longer and more extensive than the Tarsar Marsar Trek.
The trek reaches a maximum altitude of 4,200 meters at Gadsar Pass, the highest point of the journey. Due to its high altitude and long duration, acclimatization plays a crucial role in the success of the trek. The terrain is varied and challenging, involving steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, and multiple high-altitude passes.
Trekkers must cross several passes, including Nichnai Pass at 4,100 meters, Gadsar Pass at 4,200 and Zaj Pass at 4100 meters, all demanding excellent physical fitness and stamina. The trek also requires long walking days, often lasting 6-8 hours daily, with significant elevation gains and losses. The unpredictable weather at high altitudes adds to the challenge, as trekkers may encounter rain, snow, or strong winds.
This trek is famous for its seven stunning alpine lakes. The landscapes are incredibly diverse, ranging from lush green meadows to rugged mountain passes and snow-capped peaks. The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is considered moderate to difficult, making it ideal for experienced trekkers or those with a high level of fitness. The trail involves moderate ascents and descents, with some steeper sections near the lakes. The walking days are shorter, typically 4-6 hours daily, making it more manageable for beginners or those with limited trekking experience. The trail also passes through dense pine forests, meadows, and streams, offering a more relaxed and scenic experience.
This trek is known for its three stunning lakes: Tarsar, Marsar, and Sundarsar.
