Cafe 4410 – Dingbuche
My dad, sister and I decided to trek together to the Everest Base Camp in October 2024. While there are many memories to cherish from this adventure, one in particular stole my heart. Penned down here is my experience of Cafe 4410 in Dingbuche, on the trail to Everest Base Camp.
The day we trekked from Debuche to Dingboche stands out in my memory, not only because of the challenges but also because of the moments of comfort and warmth that followed. We left Debuche early, and the air felt cold and damp. As we ascended the steep, rocky paths, dense fog blanketed the landscape, reducing visibility. The familiar views that usually filled us with awe now appeared shrouded and slightly intimidating.
The climb never let up, each step demanding careful footing, and the fog added to the difficulty. My legs began to ache as we climbed higher, and the chill seeped through my layers, intensifying the fatigue. I could feel my breath thinning, yet I pushed forward, motivated by the hope of reaching Dingboche. The rest of the group stayed equally focused, each of us trudging across the barren land in silence, occasionally exchanging glances. At times, the fog cleared, revealing the mighty Ama Dablam towering above us—seemingly so close, yet so far.

After what felt like hours of uphill struggle, the fog began to thin, and we spotted the rooftops of Dingboche in the distance, contrasting against the snow-capped mountains. That sight brought a rush of relief, and the thought of a much-needed rest pushed us on toward the town. The teahouse was just within reach, but Samir suggested a detour to my father, my sister, and me. Samir, the founder of Adventure Pulse, our trekking partner, led us without hesitation, and soon we found ourselves stepping into the much talked about – Café 4410.
First glimpse of Cafe 4410
Small, misty windows adorned with colorful prayer flags invited trekkers inside, while the “4410” sign marked the elevation, reminding us of how far we had climbed. Stepping into the warm, cozy café felt like a reward in itself. The air smelled of baked goods, and the atmosphere was a stark contrast to the chilly, barren trek outside.
Inside, the ambiance was cozy and welcoming, with wooden beams and stone walls decorated with art and trekking memorabilia. Large windows let in golden light, casting a warm glow over the small wooden tables. The room was divided into two sections. The first, near the billing counter, bustled with tourists and trekkers, creating a homey vibe. At the heart of the space stood a circular seating area with a rustic fireplace. A short staircase led to a quieter second room where a group of trekkers watched an Everest documentary.
My father, sister, and I settled by a window, still in our trekking gear but starting to relax. Samir introduced us to the owner, an upbeat, joyful lady, Kami Didi, who always seemed to have a smile on her face. After a quick chat, we ordered some sacks and drinks and decided to dig in. My sister and I chose hot chocolates topped with marshmallows. As I took my first sip, it was as though its warmth spread within me.
The hot chocolate was rich and creamy, the marshmallows adding sweetness. We also tried the highly recommended carrot cake, which was perfectly sweet, filling both my heart and stomach with each bite. Samir surprised us with a few extra treats: a slice of rich chocolate cake and an apple pie. We shared everything, savoring the flavors to the fullest. The chocolate cake was scrumptious, and the apple pie had an impeccable fruity taste. It felt as though all the struggles of the day disappeared, replaced by pure joy.
What began as a foggy struggle turned into a cherished memory. Reaching Dingboche became more than just the end of a climb; it became a celebration, made unforgettable by the warmth of Café 4410.
From Cafe 4410, our tea house was just a 5 minute walk through the village and we couldn’t wait to head to our cozy nest for the day.
Parting thoughts
Its difficult to pick just one memory from the trek to Everest Base Camp because there’s simply so much to cherish. However, Cafe 4410 does definitely make it to the top 5 moments I experienced on the journey. Probably because it was pleasantly surprising to find something like this in the middle of nowhere, at such high altitude. Furthermore the warmth of the place, detailing and colors of the decor, delicious food and the company made it so memorable as an experience.
