Irshalgad trek is one of the easiest and prettiest day treks near Mumbai and Pune. Irshalgad is a fortress located between Matheran and Panvel, around 110km from Pune and 55km from Mumbai. ‘Irshal’ means pinnacle and ‘gad’ means fort. Due to its proximity and easy access both from Mumbai and Pune, Irshalgad trek is a perfect monsoon trek in Maharashtra.
This trek can also be done in winter. However, monsoon or post-monsoon is the best time to experience its beauty to the fullest. With some steep section, trails passing through the narrow ridge, and high winds at the top, the Irshalgad fort trek is full of challenges. However, beginners and kids of age group 8 years and above can also do this trek under proper guidance.
Although it has become more popular among trekkers in the last couple of years, Irshalgad fort trek is an offbeat trek that takes you away from the maddening crowd. Trekking through the remote paths towards Irshalgad, one of the most interesting natural rock pinnacles located in the Sahyadris is indeed an enthralling experience!

At a distance of approx. 110 km from Pune and 55 km from Mumbai, Irshalgad Trek is located near Matheran and Panvel in Maharashtra. The Irshalgad Trek starts and ends at the base village Chowk.
We provide transport from centralised locations around the city to the Base Village and back. These are planned for everyone’s convenience and are drafted after regsitartions are closed.
Irshalgad Trek is recommended for experienced as well as amateur trekkers with a good fitness level. This trek can also be taken up by kids of age group 8 years and above. There are few steep sections on the trails leading to a narrow ridge. However, it is an easy hike and does not include any technical climb. Participants should have good endurance and stamina to do this trek which requires approx. 5 hours to complete.
The Irshalgad trek is considered as easy to moderate grade trek and is recommended for experienced trekkers as well as fit beginners. Kids of age group 8 years and above can also participate in this trek. During the monsoon, expect heavy showers and high winds on the ridge. Monsoon season is the perfect time to do the Irshalgad trek as the weather is pleasant which makes the hike easy. During summer, expect hot and humid weather which adds into the challenge.
The minimum age requirement for Irshalgad Trek is 8 years and above.
